City Hall Sam

JIMMY DEMARCO, one of the leading lawyers in Philadelphia departed this life after waging an unsuccessful fight against colon cancer. He is survived by his wife LINDA and children RICHARD G. LAWRENCE & JAMES J. JR.

The wake was held at one of the grand old South Philadelphia Churches, the Church of St. Thomas Aquinas. The interior of this church possesses that real Old World atmosphere, with the quality of the marble, the polished oak and beautiful mosaics and murals that give so much charm to a church. Adding to this was the soft music of violins, harps and cellos playing in background.

It was a huge turnout, which was a tribute to JIMMY'S wide circle of friends and recognition of his importance to the community. Among the mourners were former Executive Director of the Philadelphia Housing Authority TOM KELLY, his wife FRAN, the President of City Council, ANN VERNA, Judge JEROME ZALESKI, State Senator MIKE STACK and his mother Municipal Court Judge FAY STACK who was accompanied by her husband. Also, BOBBY NOLAN, VINCE DOUGHERTY, JOE PRIM, Judge NICK CIPRIANI, Judge VICTOR DiNUBILE, Judge ESTHER SYLVESTER, Chairman of Republican City Committee VITO CANUSO, Judge JAMES MURRAY LYNN, former past President of the Brehon Society FRANK MORAN, JOE STAVOLA and DAVE SHADDINGS and Judge ARMAND DELLA PORTA and his wife.

Also present was former Navy Chaplain, Father JOE McCLOSKEY, who was a full commander at the time of his discharge from the Navy. He has since been a trouble-shooter for the Archdiocese, jumping into the breech where a Pastor is sick and hospital bound or for any other purpose which interferes with his abilities to function as a Priest.

JIMMY had a wide variety of friends and got a great deal of pleasure from singing. He is remembered fondly and warmly for his frequent attendance at the Brehon Law Society's Party's. He could sing Irish Ballads better than most Irish singers.

A number of years ago he was on the short list to become a Common Pleas Judge, but discouraged further action in that area because of his enjoyment of the practice of law in City Hall. He was an accomplished trial lawyer and was well known and respected by many of the trial Judges.

Senator VINCE FUMO is generally credited with being the difference in MIKE STACK'S successful campaign for the State Senate. He is also generally credited with being the difference in TINA TARTAGLIONE'S successful campaign for the State Senate. VINCE seems to be a practitioner of that old Naval Academy adage "You can do anything you put your mind to."

JIM KENNEY the likeable Councilman-at-Large, based in South Philadelphia, seems to be recruiting a significant following for his campaign to encourage immigrants to come to Philadelphia. You can't argue with his logic. "People pay the wage tax and the wage tax allows the city to expand the services it offers the inhabitants of Philadelphia."
The affable Judge, WEB KEOUGH has been appointed as Administrative Judge for the Criminal Division. He is rumored to be interested in running state wide for the Appellate Bench as are, Common Pleas Judge, JAMES MURRAY LYNN, and former candidate for Mayor in Philadelphia, MARTY WEINBERG. DAVID WECHT, from Pittsburgh, has also thrown his hat into the ring for Superior Court Judge.

Retired from active duty as an Atlantic City patrolman, David Tayoun has been tapped by the reorganized Democratic Party in the beach town to be their nominee for one of three at-large-councilmanic seats in the June primary.

David, who worked for several years as a juvenile drug probation officer with the City Courts, spent close to 10 years as one of Atlantic City's finest, earning a top cop title a year back. Dave will probably be calling on his dad to get a reaction of what works well in campaign strategies. David is married to a former Philadelphian, Jane BUonassissi.

Reports indicate brisk returns for the Pete Truman Roast...and no wonder with two dynamic leaders at the helm of the event. They are Chairman of City Commissioner Margaret Tartaglione and Clerk of Quarter Sessions Vivian Miller. Proceeds will help

With Pete's many medical bills. The event is scheduled for Finnigan's Wake, 3rd and Spring Garden from 5 to 8 pm on the 25th of this month.
