City GOP Back Brown for 13th
Republican congressional candidate Melissa Brown received the unanimous endorsement of the Philadelphia Republican City Committee.
That endorsement makes her the front runner in the race for the Republican nomination in the 13th Congressional District. Her strongest competitor surfacing to date has been Rep. Ellen Bard.
"Melissa is clearly the strongest candidate and the one with the best chance to win the 13th District," said Philadelphia Republican City Committee General Counsel Michael Meehan. "We're looking for a winner, a fighter and someone who will work hard for the people of Northeast Philly - and that's what we get with Melissa Brown."
"I am honored and humbled to have received the endorsement of the Philadelphia Republican City Committee," said Brown. "Their endorsement is affirmation that the race we ran and the battles we fought together are as important today as they were a year ago."
Pennsylvania House Speaker John Perzel, who voted in support of Brown, said that the strength of Brown's message and campaign were the predominant factors in his decision to cast his vote in support of Brown.
“As we move into the 2004 presidential campaign, the eyes of the country will be focused on the battleground state of Pennsylvania and that means on the suburban swing districts," said Perzel. "The Republican Party needs to field the strongest candidate possible to take back the 13th congressional seat. I firmly believe Melissa Brown is that candidate."
"The Philadelphia Republican City Committee's unanimous endorsement speaks volumes," said Brown spokesperson Matt Archbold. "And it confirms what we are hearing across the district - that Melissa Brown is the strongest Republican candidate in this race and has the best chance of capturing this seat."
