PHA Pushes Tipline
There's no doubt crime is down in public housing.
That's why PHA Executive Director Carl Greene this week lauded his Public Housing Police for helping decrease major crime at Authority sites by over 28 percent in the last two years.
Now he has gone one step further. He's enrolling PHA and asking all its tenants to join him in using the Citizens Crime Commission Hot Line to report any crimes or acts of vandalism they see taking place.
"We've got a new multi billion dollarconstruction program sweeping through this city and creating brand new neighborhoods," he told a gathering at the PHA Police Center at Tasker Homes. "That investment needs to be safeguarded and that means we must make sure crime does not ever again get a foothold in our developments."
Greene announced every PHA resident has been mailed a notice with details about the tip line. The program will be a 24/7 port of call, geared towards catching vandals and criminals who continue to blight many areas of the city.
"We're building modern, beautiful mixed-income communities and requiring our customers to maintain their properties as part of the PHA's Quality of Life Program," said Greene. "The tip-line will allow residents to help ensure that their neighbors' properties are protected against vandalism."
PHA crews are posting notices throughout all their developments, urging residents to help fight crime by calling 215-546-TIPS when they witness "quality of life" crimes.
