MARC Sweeps Northeast
The Major Artery Revitalization Committee (MARC) partnered with the City of
Philadelphia to assist in the citywide Philly Spring Cleanup.
MARC, along with volunteers from Councilwoman Joan Krajewski's office, State
Rep. Michael McGeehan's office, Congresswoman Allyson Y. Schwartz's office, the
Mayfair Community Development Corp., the Community Life Improvement Program,
Republic First Bank and the community, cleaned Cottman Avenue from State Road to
Roosevelt Boulevard, including Russo Park, located at Cottman & Torresdale
Avenues. More than 100 volunteers filled 250 trash bags as they swept the
two-mile stretch of road and 10-acre park.
"MARC would like to thank Councilwoman Krajewski, State Rep. McGeehan,
Congresswoman Schwartz and the Mayfair CDC for their support," said MARC
President John Byrne. "They and the volunteers from the community made this
cleanup effort a tremendous success."
According to a letter from Mayor Michael Nutter to organizations that
participated, the cleanup exceeded all the goals that were set out. He called it
a "collective effort that could not have happened without the active
participation of individuals and organizations across the city."
MARC is a non-profit community revitalization organization. For more information
