Art Museum trustee Lynn Honickman, who hosted the cocktail reception with her husband Harold and the Art Museum CEO Timothy Rub, enjoys talking with Martin Bell, documentary filmmaker and husband of photographer Mary Ellen Mark, and Rub. Bell accompanied his wife to all thirteen of the proms around the country and he produced a documentary interviewing the prom dates selected to pose for the portraits. The Philadelphia Museum of Art held an opening reception for world famous Philly native, photographer Mary Ellen Mark at the Perelman Gallery last night. The photos from the book she published – PROM – are on display. Mark and her filmmaker husband Martin Bell spent four years attending thirteen proms across the country – starting with her alma mater – Cheltenham High School. The Honorable Constance Williams (right), chair of the Art Museum board of trustees, was delighted to see one of the prom couples pictured in the book and exhibition show up at the reception for the artist. Joseph J. Rishel, The Gisela and Dennis Alter Senior Curator of European Painting before 1900, and Senior Curator of the John G. Johnson Collection and the Rodin Museum; and Gail Harrity, the museum’s COO, joined in the celebration for Mary Ellen Mark, the Penn alumna who has won worldwide acclaim for her photo portraits.
