Two South Philadelphia high schools are no longer deemed dangerous enough to be on a state list of scary schools. Southern High, 2101 S. Broad Street., and Universal Audenried Charter HS, 3301 Tasker Street, have been removed from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s “Persistently Dangerous Schools†list.

UNIVERSAL AUDENREID CHARTER HS, 3301 Tasker Street, has been taken off state list of “persistently dangerous schools.†Southern HS, 2101 S. Broad Street, has also been taken off list.
There has been a reduction in disruptive behavior at both schools in the past school year, according to a reports released by the State Dept. of Education and the School District of Philadelphia’s Renaissance Initiative.
As well as reducing disruptive behavior, Universal Audenreid improved its standardized test scores, attendance — and attained an 84% graduation rate for its nearly 140 seniors. “While we celebrate these reports, we have so much work to do to change and ultimately eradicate the ‘opportunity and academic’ gaps that these children, families, and communities have endured for way too long. Universal remains optimistic about the progress of these schools and remain committed to the holistic approach in rebuilding our schools, students and communities,†said Rahim Islam, President/CEO, Universal Cos.
