City Council President Darrell Clarke was a special guest at a Vice Presidential debate watch party in South Philadelphia.
Councilman Clarke joined council colleagues Kenyatta Johnson and Bobby Henon at a Vice Presidential Debate party hosted by electricians union boss John Dougherty at Doc’s Union Pub, 2nd and Mifflin Streets.
A standing room only crowd full of political movers and shakers filled the Pennsport bar, as they watched Vice-President Joe Biden and Republican VP Candidate Paul Ryan strut their “stuff” on national television. Much was riding on the exchange of each candidates ideas – and their respective priorities for the nation. The crowd listened intently – punching up the atmosphere with cheers and jeers during the 90-minute debate – mostly in favor of VP Biden.
“This debate is all about the differences between Obama and Romney – and why people from all walks of life should support Obama,” said guest speaker, Brian Stevenson and community leader in south Philadelphia. “President Obama is the one with a forward-thinking vision,” he said.
“I think tonight showed clearly that the Obama team has the experience, and has tangible results in a tough economy,” 6th District Councilman Bobby Henon said. “He has made bold decisions to move this country onward. I look forward to the next debate where he will come out swinging and motivate and energize the country.”
