SmartCEO, a community of chief executives and business leaders in the region, presented Philadelphia International Airport CEO Mark Gale its prestigious Circle of Excellence award for Hospitality last Friday.

The Circle of Excellence Awards are presented annually to “recognize the Philadelphia region’s most respected, innovative and forward-thinking ‘yardsticks’ of excellence. These presidents and CEOs have taken their companies to the forefront of the industry … they have grown their businesses and created solutions and services that stand out from the competition.”

Gale, who was appointed CEO in 2009 and began his aviation career as an intern at PHL in the 1980s, was recognized for his leadership in several areas. Some of Gale’s accomplishments include bringing four new airlines to Philadelphia in 2012-2013, and Qatar Airways beginning service in April 2014 as well as introducing several customer-oriented initiatives to enhance the airport experience for travelers. He is also actively involved in numerous industry and tourism organizations and supports a variety of community charitable endeavors.
