Even though the Dalai Lama was not well enough to travel to Philadelphia to accept the Liberty Medal Monday night, his presence was strong at the National Constitution Center. This included a video of his life and history, as well as a videotaped acceptance speech. And Richard Gere, a long-time friend of the Dalai Lama, made a return trip to Philly to speak on behalf of His Holiness. Jim Gardner and Channel 6 were broadcasting the event live. The Dalai Lama decided to donate the funds which accompany the medal to the Mind & Life Institute, which he had founded some 30 years ago.
