Unity in the Community is helping students attend college. While the rest of the world was hit with violent chaos last Friday in Paris, the non-profit group in collaboration with DBR ministries held a fundraiser at Yesha Ministries in South Philadelphia.

“Blessed to be a Blessing, College Benefit Concert” raised $500 for 12 students in the area.
“I think we need to put our best foot forward and invest in the kids. We’re talking about the future of this community,” said Anton Moore, President/Founder of Unity in the Community.
The students attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Community College of Philadelphia and Penn State. They’re studying sports medicine, media broadcasting and business.
“It’s a variety of people in the community who can come back and make a difference,” said Moore.

The event was hosted by Brother Marcus from Praise 103.9, Philadelphia’s Inspiration Station. There were also words of encouragement from city officials and Bishop J. Darrel Robinson, Pastor Daniel Jackson and Pastor Omari Hughes.
“There are so many folks who have come together to try to rally around the importance of education for our young people and that is something that needs to be championed,” said Hughes. “I think it shows we have bright students in our community that are doing awesome things but it’s never spotlighted because it’s overshadowed by the negativity that you see,” said Moore.

“You see the murders, you see the robberies, but you never hear about the kids that are actually in college.”
