Brady , Jordan, Gym Meet to Seek Aid for Mexican Woman in Church Sanctuary

Congressman Bob Brady (D-Phila.) joined Jerry Jordan, president of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and Philadelphia Councilwoman Helen Gym (at Large) at the Church of the Advocate, 18th & Diamond Streets, in a discussion in search of solutions for the safety of immigrant families.

The congressman also met with Mrs. Carmela Hernandez and her children, who, under threat of deportation, have taken up sanctuary at the Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia. The church is a member congregation of the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia.

Brady said he would visit the church to meet the family, not only as a Congressman but also as the son of immigrants. “My Irish and Italian parents came to this country also seeking the American dream just as the Hernandez family has,” Brady commented.
